With 16 years of experience across military service, technology, veterinary medicine, and business operations, Jacob brings a broad perspective to helping small organizations solve problems and move ideas forward. His background includes a lengthy stint in the U.S. Army Infantry, SaaS operations, veterinary medicine managment, and an MBA focused on strategy and emerging technology.
Across those environments, he has worked with teams navigating growth, change, resource constraints, and competing priorities. That experience shaped a practical approach centered on understanding how an organization works before recommending how it should change.
Jacob founded Sahalie Consulting to make thoughtful, collaborative business support more accessible to small and midsize organizations. He believes good consulting should create clarity, prioritize common sense, and leave teams more capable than when the work began. His approach emphasizes curiosity and solutions that fit the people and organization rather than forcing them into a template.
Outside of work, Jacob is a dive professional and mountain enthusiast whose appreciation for the natural world inspired the name Sahalie and remains an important influence on the company’s philosophy.
If you’re building something you care about and could use another perspective, there will be plenty to talk about.
Behind Sahalie
Jacob Ferris, MBA
Sahalie is an English spelling associated with the Chinuk Wawa, or Chinook Jargon, word saxali or saghalie, meaning “up,” “above,” or “high.” Chinuk Wawa developed as a regional trade language in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, with roots among Chinookan speakers and later use among many Indigenous peoples and settlers throughout the region.
For Sahalie Consulting, the name represents gaining perspective, approaching challenges from unconventional angles, and finding a thoughtful path forward. The goal is not to arrive with all the answers or create dependence on a consultant. It is to work alongside people, ask the right questions, simplify what has become complicated, and help turn ideas into purposeful action.
